Costs

Q
How much does the program cost?
A

The cost of the program is $11,000.

All Fellows receive an automatic $2,000 grant from the Begin Center.

Most Fellows are eligible for a grant from MasaIsrael.

Q
Is the cost of airfare included in the price?
AThe cost for the air fair is not included in the price of the program.
Q
How much money should I bring with me?
A

In our experience, expenses vary greatly between Fellows, depending on the level and location of housing; the frequency of travelling during weekends; and the frequency of going out and eating out.

Based on the results of a survey of Fellows’ spending, we estimate that around 1300-1700 shekels per month will be enough for most Fellows. (This does not include housing. If you are paying for your own housing you should expect to pay around 2,000-2,500 shekels per month in rent).

Q
How can I get an additional scholarship to participate in the program?
A

Aside from Masa Israel, there are several other options worth exploring for additional funding.  We have listed a few ideas here:

  • Local Jewish Federations (North America) – Many local Jewish Federations have scholarship programs for trips to Israel. We advise applicants to contact their local federation to find out if they provide this.  They may also be able to recommend other sources of funding available.
  • Synagogues – Many synagogues have funds to assist young members in participating in Israel programs.  It could be worthwhile for applicants to contact their synagogue and inquire if such financial assistance is available.
  • Other local Jewish community organizations may have scholarships available or be able to assist in identifying other sources of funding. We recommend applicants contacting their local JCC and any other local Jewish/Zionist Organizations.

Administrative

Q
How are previously scheduled commitments (such as a family gathering) handled during the Fellowship year?
AIt is not recommended that participants miss parts of the program but it is understandable for important family events. Fellows have a certain amount of days that they are allowed to be absent from the program. They are free to use these days to take time off for family events or visits, or as they choose.
Q
Who is responsible for the group in Israel?
AA team of professional staff from the Begin Center led by the Director of the program, Paul Gross.
